What is coaching?

Coaching is a developmental method that supports personal growth, change, and the achievement of goals. It is based on a structured dialogue in which the coach uses questions to help the coachee identify the most suitable ways forward. This process strengthens motivation, encourages responsibility, and helps individuals gain a more realistic understanding of their situation and options.

What can you expect from coaching?

  • A focus on personal motivation and how to mobilise your own resources.
  • Connecting coaching topics with positive experiences and a sense of achievement.
  • An opportunity to gain deeper insight into yourself and, in some cases, into others.
  • Support in developing self-management skills.
  • Increased awareness of effective steps towards achieving your goals.
  • An approach that draws on a range of psychological perspectives and methods.

What should you not expect from coaching?

  • Advice or instructions on what to do and how to proceed.
  • A focus on the past or on processing past experiences, problems, or emotional wounds.
  • The coach determining the topic of the coaching conversation.
  • Academic or study counselling.

How can you prepare for coaching?

It is helpful to have a topic, challenge, or area of development that you would like to explore. If appropriate, you may also consider specific goals that you would like to work towards during the coaching process.
